The IIA’s Internal Audit Benchmark Hub™ FAQ
What is The IIA’s Internal Audit Benchmark Hub™?
The IIA's Internal Audit Benchmark Hub™ is a new and innovative dashboard designed to meet your benchmarking needs. Compiled from a substantial pool of respondents, the anonymous and self-reported data contained within our user-friendly, intuitive platform will help you assess, measure, compare, and align an internal audit function’s performance, practices, and processes with those of peers and industry leaders. Whether benchmarking by company size, assets, region, or industry, The IIA's Internal Audit Benchmark Hub™ provides the comprehensive data you need.
The tool is powered by Microsoft Power BI.
-
The individual license is for internal use only within the organization: a specific individual’s access and results may not be shared outside their organization. A commercial use license is for an organization that wishes to perform benchmarking tests and share results with third parties, thus, the organization purchases a block of users.
-
No, this product – while also providing benchmarking data – is an entirely reimagined approach that focuses specifically on the data our members identified as most important. Further, it is now an interactive tool that allows the user to control filters, run whenever desired, etc., rather than the one-time PDF.
-
Data was collected on over 20 key performance indicators (KPIs) based on industry, sector, function size, reporting lines, budget, qualifications, training, assurance, and advisory engagements. The KPIs were identified in collaboration with IIA Institute leaders from different regions.
-
The data survey opened in late 2023. As time passes, older data will be segregated so that the most current years’ data will be shown.
-
The data for the dashboard is updated every quarter. The survey is now available year-round for respondents; those results will go through data review and loading each quarter. This means that results you see in the dashboard for the same search may appear different based upon data being added.
Data:
-
The currency exchange rate date is posted at the top of the second page of the tool. Multiple exchange rates are used because respondents can provide their information in their local currency.
-
The survey responses are anonymous. Therefore, we cannot track the organization nor the level of reporting. The survey asked that a CAE report for their organization, and we requested a response from the most senior-level internal auditor at the organization.
-
To display results, the system requires four or more records (this is necessary for statistical viability). Depending upon the filters selected, the number of qualifying records may not return at least four results.
-
The interactive map is drawn from a third party. If the third-party site is unavailable, the map will appear blank until the service is restored.
-
Organizations are encouraged to report their data in the currency that they use. To benchmark across regions and the world, all data is converted to a single currency - USD.
-
Data may be viewed by world region. To preserve anonymity for organizations with smaller reporting pools, we chose to keep reporting at the regional level.
-
Certain filters are dependent upon other selection criteria. The most common would be when “Public Sector” is selected; as public sector organizations do not have revenue associated, the Annual Revenue filter is not an option.
-
The product is separate from membership.
-
The dashboard access is specific to an individual and may not be shared with others. The output may be shared within your organization.
-
The average is calculated by adding up all the individual values and dividing this total by the number of observations. The median is calculated by taking the “middle” value, the value for which half of the observations are larger and half are smaller. Both factors are insightful to help organizations benchmark.
-
A user may export the full report or a specific page as a: (1) PDF document or (2) PowerPoint presentation – either of which may be printed. You also have the option to export a single graphic by right clicking on the graphic and selecting the export function.
-
In addition to sharing the exported PDF or PowerPoint presentation (as full report or individual graphic), you can share a live link with others. In that way, if you update the graphic with new filters, the updated result(s) will be shared.
-
“Days” refers to the number of elapsed calendar days. It does not mean the number of workdays tracked.
