We are pleased to be a 2023 Building Awareness Champion!
During Internal Audit Awareness Month in May, we shared our passion for internal auditing, promoting the profession through a variety of events and campaigns designed to inform and engage, raise awareness, and help stakeholders understand the value of internal audit in their organizations.
Welcome to the 2023-2024 Chapter year! I am so thankful for this opportunity to serve you as your chapter president. I know with your support and the support of the other chapter volunteers it will be a successful year. Our chapter is fortunate to have so many wonderful volunteers providing their time to serve you, and I cannot thank them enough for dedicating this time. If you are interested in volunteering now or down the road, I highly recommend it as it will help you grow personally as well as in your career.
It has been exciting to see the enthusiasm that the chapter members and The IIA have for the profession. There is a noticeable drive to become better partners and assets in our organizations.
As industries, risks, and skill sets continue to evolve, internal auditors can provide immense value. One thing that The IIA has highlighted recently is making sure that internal audit has a seat at the table. When it comes to emerging topics such as Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards or even bank failures, internal auditors are the most equipped to provide assurance and consultation (as appropriate), given our knowledge of the risks and the company’s processes.
In addition to increasing internal audit involvement, The IIA has been putting more emphasis on the future of internal audit by focusing on students. Membership was recently made free to students and is a great resource for students to connect with professionals and discover what job opportunities are available to them. This is an asset I wish I had while in college. If you could share this benefit with any students you know, we can help build a stronger profession for the future.
Another major focus of The IIA has been the evolution of the Internal Professional Practices Framework. The current goal is to have the final version published at the end of 2023, and have it go into effect the following year.
Thank you for being part of the Salt Lake City Chapter and a member of The IIA. I am looking forward to this chapter year and getting to know you all better.
