Welcome to the IIA Oklahoma City Chapter
Chapter Beginnings
It’s hard to imagine, but it has been 70 years since the Oklahoma City Chapter of the Institute of Internal Auditors, Inc. was established. On September 1, 1949 an initial group of 18 internal audit professionals founded the local chapter, passed the by-laws and elected the original officers and one governor. They also determined that chapter meetings would be held on the first Thursday evening of each month.
The original 1949 members were:- W. Leo Austin
- J. R. Larimore
- Paul C. Barnhart
- A. W. Levan
- Orbin J. Casey
- S. A. McAdams
- Marlin S. Crossley
- S. W. McNeely
- Vernon Dillingham
- S. B. Robinson
- W. K. Garrett
- Richard N. Tuggle
- Dub B. Geizentanner
- Jesse P. White
- J. N. Keating
- Horace F. Windham
- Rolland E. Kerns
- Roy Winters
During the last 70 years, we’ve grown to an all-time high of 355 members, representing 102 organizations. We provide a wide range of opportunities for professional development and communication, such as Chapter sponsored lunch meetings and seminars, monthly newsletters, and a directory of Chapter members and events. We are committed to adding value to our members, member organizations, Chief Audit Executives (CAEs) and profession. As such, we are currently attempting to expand the scope of our outreach and communication efforts (e.g., website development, CAE Roundtables, etc.). Please bear with us during these ongoing efforts.
Our principal mission is to:- Provide continuing professional education (CPE) activities and standards for the practice of internal auditing and
- Research, disseminate and promote knowledge and information concerning internal auditing, including internal control and related subjects.
The Chapter supports this mission by:
Offering 9 monthly one-hour CPE luncheon each month (September through May).
Offering 2 seminars (Fall and Spring ) worth 16 to 24 CPE hours each. -
IIA Oklahoma City Chapter Members,
As the 2024/2025 chapter year is approaching, I want to thank everyone who participated in our activities and CPE offerings from the 2023/2024 chapter year! I would like to personally thank all of our officers who volunteered their time to deliver informative learning opportunities and fun activities for our members. Tabatha Roulston has fulfilled her term limit as Secretary and will be stepping down as an officer. Tabatha did an outstanding job as our Secretary and has done an incredible job of training our newly elected Secretary – Jon Desouza. I am excited about what lies ahead with the committed group of officers we have to help continue the momentum of last year and push our chapter in an increasingly positive direction to deliver for our members.
Please help me welcome the following volunteer officers for 2024/2025:
- Audie Hamman, President-Elect
- Amanda Brooks, Treasurer
- Megan Atterberry, Membership Officer
- Jon Desouza, Secretary
- Tatum McMahan, Programs Officer
- Tara Wilson, Certifications Officer
The IIA OKC Chapter is dedicated to providing professional education and support to its members in a safe and productive environment. As we schedule events for the upcoming year, we plan on offering a mix of in-person and online meetings. We want to ensure there is a variety of available options so our members have access to an assortment of learning and development opportunities.
My goal for the upcoming year is to increase camaraderie, networking, and knowledge amongst our chapter members as we all pursue improvement and value creation in our field. Please feel free to reach out to myself or any chapter officers with suggestions or ideas. I am looking forward to the upcoming year and all that we can accomplish together!
Thank you,
Cory Brown
President, IIA OKC Chapter
