Stakeholder Relations

The IIA’s President and CEO, Anthony Pugliese, and Jeff McIlravey, Director - Canada, recently met with various Canadian stakeholders, including Grant Vingoe, CEO of the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC), and Pamela Steer, President and CEO of CPA Canada, to advance The IIA’s advocacy and corporate governance initiatives.  They also met and engaged with members of the IIA Toronto Chapter Board and CAEs within the financial services sector government, crown corporations and Auditor General. These engagements advance advocacy efforts in Canada and drive the profession forward through strategic partnerships with key stakeholders, chapter leaders, and internal audit ambassadors.

Advocacy Update

IIA Canada’s Advocacy team recently launched the Canadian Focused Research Project following consultation with chapter leaders. This research project aims to map Canada’s legal, regulatory, and public policy environment of the internal audit profession with a comprehensive report on the State of Internal Audit in Canada. As One IIA, we are excited to collaborate with chapters in this research project.

Also in March, Jillian Fernandez, Director of Advocacy in Canada, presented the advocacy achievements for 2023, which included the development of the Canadian Advocacy Strategy with input from the Canadian Advisory Committee (CAC) and chapter leadership as well as the launch of the Canadian Advocacy Working Group (CAWG). The programs and initiatives for 2024 were brought forward to the CAC and the North American Board for feedback and discussion.
