Welcome to the IIA Central Iowa Chapter

Established in 1941, The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) is an international professional association with global headquarters in Lake Mary, Florida, USA. The IIA is the internal audit profession's global voice, recognized authority, acknowledged leader, chief advocate, and principal educator. Generally, members work in internal auditing, risk management, governance, internal control, information technology audit, education, and security.

Established in 1970, the mission of the Central Iowa Chapter is to "Service our membership by providing educational and networking opportunities and promoting the internal audit profession." In support of this mission, we currently offer monthly meetings from September through May and offer at least one fall and one spring seminar each chapter year. We also offer periodic networking opportunities, such as hosting outings to various sporting events, wine tastings and dinner events.

The Central Iowa Chapter’s 400+ members include new and seasoned professionals representing local, national and international businesses. Our Chapter’s members are primarily employed in the banking, financial services and insurance industries within central Iowa, with a significant portion also employed by local, state, federal and Native American Tribal governments. Our chapter strongly encourages professional development within the internal audit profession, as can be evidenced by 25% of our members holding at least one IIA designation.

Building Awareness Champions

We are pleased to be a 2023 Building Awareness Champion!

During Internal Audit Awareness Month in May, we shared our passion for internal auditing, promoting the profession through a variety of events and campaigns designed to inform and engage, raise awareness, and help stakeholders understand the value of internal audit in their organizations.

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful and safe holiday season.

We continue to give back to our members by offering free monthly meetings to our IIA members (a $20 value) as we navigate this virtual environment. Join us for our January meeting with Jen Hummel from Robert Half while we explore best practices for managing a mix of on- and off-site talent, key lessons learned in the wake of the crisis and it’s long-term impact on the workplace. We will also hear tips on how we as internal auditors can be effective in this environment.

Our approach to balancing virtual, in-person, and hybrid meetings is being evaluated by the leadership team to identify the right time to begin transitioning and offering a few in-person opportunities potentially in late Spring. Many of you shared your opinions during a recent poll in December and we appreciate the feedback that has been provided.

With the new year upon us, many are beginning to think about professional development goals for the year. Volunteering with our chapter could be a great way to meet professional development goals. If our chapter is to be successful for our next chapter year, we need volunteers to continue operating and offering quality CPE. Every position is open and available for someone to step up and take on a new opportunity. Our next chapter year will run from June 1, 2022 through May 31, 2023. Officer positions are a one[1]year term and governor positions are a three-year term.

If you are interested in running for any of the positions highlighted on page 7 of the newsletter, please contact the Chapter at Chapter96@iiachapters.org. Some of you may already have been contacted because you indicated interest in volunteering with the chapter within your registration of a monthly meeting. If you aren’t feeling up for a leadership position, committees are also an option. We would love to hear from you and see how we can work together in the future.
