Standard-setting in the Public Interest
This document presents a standard-setting framework that ensures the International Internal Audit Standards Board sets standards for internal auditing that are worthy of global adoption and implementation.
The standard-setting framework includes a structure and due process that ensure consideration of the public interest and responsiveness to stakeholders.
The framework addresses:
- Stakeholders served by the Standards.
- Principles for enhancing stakeholder trust in the Standards.
- Structure and process to set standards in the public interest.
- Oversight and assessment of the Standards’ responsiveness to stakeholders’ needs.
The Oversight Council believes that an internal audit function aligned with professional standards is more likely to protect the public interest and to achieve the Purpose of Internal Auditing: to strengthen the organization’s ability to create, protect, and sustain value by providing the board and management with independent, risk-based, and objective assurance, advice, insight, and foresight.
