Topical Requirements are a mandatory element of the International Professional Practices Framework® to be used with the Global Internal Audit Standards. In February 2025, the IIA will release the first of its Topical Requirements. We invite you to learn about the Topical Requirement for Cybersecurity and how internal audit functions approach adoption and implementation. This webinar will focus on how conformance with the Cybersecurity Topical Requirement will improve the consistency, quality, and reliability of internal audit services and results.

George Barham, Director of Standards and Guidance, Information Technology and Anne Mercer, Senior Director Professional Guidance, will share with you the extensive collaboration that supported the development of the Cybersecurity Topical Requirement and will discuss how it will help internal auditors to assess and evaluate:

  • The organization’s cybersecurity governance.
  • Cybersecurity risk management. 
  • Cybersecurity control processes

SPEAKERS

Anne Mercer

Anne Mercer is a director of Global Standards and Guidance at The IIA, serving as a content developer and project manager in collaboration with global volunteer committees to develop supplemental guidance to support the internal audit profession. She has 20 years of experience as a chief audit executive in the insurance industry and has been an IIA volunteer for more than 30 years. Mercer’s roles with The IIA include serving as past chairman of the North American Board and Global Ethics Committee, as well as serving as a member of The IIA’s Global Board of Directors’ Executive Committee. She has held volunteer board positions with the audit board of the City of Orlando, Guaranty Fund Management Services, and the Commission for Case Management Certification.

Mercer holds a Bachelor of Arts from Rhode Island College and an MBA from the University of Rhode Island. She is a Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Financial Services Auditor, and Certified Fraud Examiner.


George Barham

George possesses over 10 years of experience in internal audit, risk mitigation, process improvement, program/project management, cybersecurity/IT audit, and policy implementation in reputed companies such as Bush Brothers, Walmart, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, among others. He has a proven track record of understanding and analyzing business processes, identifying risk and improvement opportunities, executing through strong project management approach and critical thinking to solve complex business problems. George is a qualified internal audit professional and holds the CIA, CISA and CRMA credentials.
