The San Gabriel Valley Chapter membership includes internal auditors and management from a variety of industries and organizations including healthcare, finance/banking, utilities, transportation, public accounting, and education. Membership is open to anyone with an interest in the Internal Auditing profession. We encourage everyone to achieve Certified Internal Auditor status. The Chapter serves our members in internal auditing, governance, and internal control, IT audit, education, and security. Our goal is to provide a balanced program of continuing education, and opportunities to meet fellow professionals.
We are pleased to be a 2024 Building Awareness Champion!
During Internal Audit Awareness Month in May, we shared our passion for internal auditing, promoting the profession through a variety of events and campaigns designed to inform and engage, raise awareness, and help stakeholders understand the value of internal audit in their organizations.
The Chapter is providing scholarships to students in the San Gabriel Valley to encourage interest in the internal audit profession.
The Chapter participated in the 2021 Building Awareness Champion program. As a result of our Chapter's hard work and dedication to the profession, we received a letter of congratulations from IIA President and CEO Anthony J. Pugliese, as well as a digital ribbon further recognizing our accomplishments.
At the end of May 2025, we celebrated the 40th anniversary of the IIA – San Gabriel Valley Chapter and in this message, it feels appropriate to mention two long time IIA Members that have had major impact in our chapter’s history: Board of Governors Rey Bejerano & Fred Stevens. As an early volunteer at lunchtime seminars Rey would jovially greet me as his ‘old friend’ and encourage me to advocate for the internal audit profession at Meet the Firms nights. During my time as Treasurer, Fred would meet the team on weekends for coffee to disperse the mail from the P.O. Box and tell stories of going to Leadership Academy in the early days and meeting Lawrence B. Sawyer, often referred to as “the father of internal auditing.” It’s these types of encounters that sparked the sense of camaraderie that led me to volunteer for the Chapter time after time. It is fortunate that our Chapter has many volunteers that create this welcoming atmosphere and continue to contribute to our Chapters long standing success.
The chapter is in impeccable shape and set-up for long-term success. As we look ahead to the upcoming fiscal year, I would like the central value to be growth—not just in numbers, but in knowledge, reach, and impact.
It will be one of my priorities to increase our membership base, ensuring that we continue to build a strong, diverse, and engaged community of professionals. Equally important is the training sessions we host, which will be aimed at delivering new, actionable insights—ensuring that every participant leaves with a stronger understanding of the evolving audit profession and the complex risk landscape we navigate today. Whether it's emerging technologies, regulatory shifts, or organizational risks, our programs will equip members to stay ahead and add value in their roles.
Lastly, with the excitement of a new year, I encourage all members to continue to step up and say ‘Yes’ to that next volunteer opportunity. You never know where the road of volunteerism will take you. Cheers to another 40 years!
Thanks to everyone’s efforts and contributions, our Chapter has proudly achieved 19 years of Gold status and Platinum status for eight consecutive years.
