PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Greetings San Jose Members and Friends,

As this is my first message as San Jose Chapter President, I would like to take this opportunity to thank past Chapter President Princy Jain and the rest of the chapter officers for making the transition easy for me and seamless for the members.  Also, I would like to congratulate Princy and the entire membership for once again achieving Platinum Chapter status (the highest level) based on credit for all chapter activities over the last year.

International Conference

The 2008 IIA International Conference in July was a huge success, with over 3,000 delegates from around the world converging on the Moscone Center in San Francisco for 3 days of events and speakers.  Jointly hosted by the San Jose, San Francisco, East Bay and Sacramento chapters, the conference was the culmination of several years of volunteer work by many individuals from the four chapters. In particular, I’d like to acknowledge the contribution of San Jose Chapter members Princy Jain, Steve Jung and Robin Opheim.  Their work on behalf of the International Conference enhances the profession for us all.

2008 Fall Conference

We have started planning for the 2008 Fall Conference. This one-day local conference will cover a mix of Internal Audit and IT audit-related topics on relevant topics. We are looking for:

  • Volunteers – to held with planning tasks and day of event support
  • Sponsors – to support the conference in exchange for advertising space in conference marketing materials and information booths at the event
  • Speakers – to deliver high quality content at the event

Please contact Hoaning Yang (hoanyang@cisco.com ) if you have any interest or questions on any of the above.

Member survey

We will soon be e-mailing a member survey to get your input on chapter activities.  Please take the time to complete the survey so we can tailor the activities of the chapter to best serve member needs.  Want more networking socials? Tell us! Have an interest in specific topics for luncheon meetings? Let us know!  We’re listening.

Fraud Risk Program Guidance – Now Available

The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) along with the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), and The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), has recently released "Managing the Business Risk of Fraud: A Practical Guide."

This new guidance outlines five key principles of a fraud risk management process and recommends ways in which boards, senior management, and internal auditors can fight corporate fraud. The report is the result of two years of work from a dedicated task force of more than 20 experts in the field of fraud risk identification, mitigation, and investigation.

“Managing the Business Risk of Fraud: A Practical Guide” is available as a free download on The IIA’s Web site at http://www.theiia.org/guidance/managing-the-business-risk-of-fraud.

As always, I welcome any constructive comments regarding the chapter to build on our past successes and maintain a vibrant chapter that provides value to our members.
